Percussion
Why Join Percussion?
Percussion is the "Heartbeat" of the ensemble. Imagine listening to your favorite band and your favorite song without any drums or special effects, it just wouldn't sound the same. Percussion sets the mood of the music being played and can be expressed in many different ways all across the world. In the percussion section at Grove City Christian, there is a drive for perfection and excellence in everything we do, on and off the field. In marching band, our percussion ensemble is a highly competitive, hard-working, rewarding environment that really feeds off of working together. This environment teaches students about teamwork, discipline, and being rewarded for the work they put in.

Jesse Staten
Percussion Instructor/Front Ensemble Coordinator
The 2023 marching band season will be Jesse's fifth year with GCCS. Jesse has started her music career on clarinet, and was a field commander for Marching Band. She has also marched cymbals, vibraphone, and marimba with Central Crossing High School's WGI finalist Indoor Percussion Ensemble. She is very excited to be working with Grove City Christian for her fourth year!
If I don't already play a percussion instrument, can I join?
Yes! You are able to switch to percussion if you already play a different instrument, although there are a few things to keep in mind:
Private Lessons are strongly recommended to get you started.
You can move up to any instrument you like, but if you are new to percussion you might have to take some stepping stones first. You will always be considered for what ever instrument you like, but keep in mind you will be placed on the instrument that best suits your current skills as well as the ensemble needs first.
